Wed April 28 - Cead Mile Failte! Depart home on a comfortable coach. Leave Corning Wegmans 11am, Elmira Holiday Inn 11:30am, Waverly Salvation Army 12noon, Wegman's in JC at 1 pm. Rest stop at Siamsa Pub, Stroudsburg PA, 2:30 pm, then on to Newark Airport check in 5:30pm; flight time 8:15pm, overnight flight UA36S, dinner on flight. United Airlines: 800-426-1122. Thu April 29 – Arrive in Edinburgh airport, 8am. Meet our Mackies Coach driver, board coach 9am. Arrive in Edinburgh for breakfast and a tour of the Royal Yacht Britannia, around 11am. This ship was the Queen’s private yacht before it became the floating museum it is today. Next, we’ll do a driving tour Edinburgh city, the Royal Mile, and lunch, check in at hotel 3pm. Free time to freshen up, take a nap, or walkabout Edinburgh. Early bird dinner 6pm nearby, at Michael’s Steakhouse. Go home to bed, or find some fun on your own.

Fri April 30 – Hotel breakfast 8am and now for a day in Edinburgh, Scotland’s capital. We begin with a tour of Edinburgh Castle, 9:30am. After this, you are on your own until dinner, to wander the “Royal Mile” shops, pubs, and museums of the Old Town. Most admissions will cost 10 to 15 British Pounds. Here are some free suggestions: visit the Scottish National Museum, or the National Gallery; maybe climb the majestic mountain, Arthur’s Seat. Let’s meet for cocktails 6pm, and dinner at 6:30pm “Spirit of Scotland” show at Jam House,
5 Queen St. Bus will meet us to take us home to our hotel around 10pm.
Sat May 1 – Hotel breakfast 8am board coach 9am, ready for a leisurely day trip to “the Kingdom of Fife.” First stop, St. Andrews “the Home of Golf,” for lunch and touring the town, the golf course, the cathedral, and the university attended by the royal princes. Some of us will play 18 holes. Board the coach at 3pm to visit the Scottish Deer Park, 3:30pm. This contains Scotland’s native red deer and other species, as well as an “enrapturing” demonstration. About 5pm we head back to Edinburgh for dinner and ceilidh dancing at the Scottish Storytelling Center 7pm. It’s a short walk downhill, back to the hotel.
Sun May 2 – Hotel breakfast, Services at Sacred Heart 7:45am, St. Giles 8am, board coach 10am, for a trip into the Cairngorm Highlands and Loch Ness. We will make a stop at Scone Palace near Perth 11:30am. This is the ancient crowning place of the King of Scotland, and the original site of the “Stone of Scone.” After the tour, there’s time for a light lunch before hitting the road for Pitlochry along the River Tay. By 5pm, we will reach Fort Augustus, “the bottom” of Loch Ness and check in. Walkabout the Loch side and lovely grounds of this fort/abbey/school. Dinner at the Boathouse, 7pm. After, we will have music and a ceilidh.

Mon May 3 – Let’s have a local day today! Breakfast 9am, at the Boat House, board boat 10am for a cruise on the world-famous Loch Ness. No guarantee that we will see Nessie but keep your camera handy! Visit the Clansman Centre at 12 noon. There should be time for lunch, and walkabout the pretty village of Fort Augustus. Meet bus at 3pm for a visit to the famous Urquhart Castle. Dinner back at the Boat House 7pm, with leisure time afterward; billiards in the social room?
Tue May 4 – Boathouse breakfast 9am board coach 10am. We will tour “the top side” of Loch Ness today, featuring the famous “clan gathering” area of Inverness. We will include the tragic and defining battlefield of Culloden 11am, and stay there for lunch. After lunch, we’ll visit the Clava Cairns, the standing stones that inspired Outlander. A wee bit down the road, we will visit the Tomatin Whisky Distillery 4:30pm. Home to Fort Augustus for dinner 7:30pm, walk home around sunset.
Wed May 5 – Breakfast at the Boat House 8am and board coach 8:45am for Fort William. Today, it’s a trip by rail 10:15am on the famous Jacobite train, made famous in the Harry Potter films. We’ll ride through the Highlands to the west coast for lunch in the fishing village of Mallaig. At 4pm we board the ferry “over the sea to Skye,” following the legend of Bonnie Prince Charlie. Land at Armadale, and drive up through the beautiful sunset scenery of Skye to Portree to check in and have dinner 7pm.

Thu May 6 – Day tour of the Isle of Skye. Our guide Gordon McIntyre will join us to show us the sights of the island, such as The Old Man of Storr, Quirang, Neist Point, The Fairy Pools, The Fairy Glen, or Dunvegan Castle. It’s a long day, but breathtaking! Afterward, back to our hotel for dinner 7pm, and local entertainment.
Fri May 7 – Free day to rest, explore, hike, bike, or read a book by the sea. There will be a chance to join Gordon again, to take a tour of places we could not reach or finish yesterday. Maybe do a whisky tasting before dinner at our hotel, 7pm. After dinner, let’s have music this evening; a good jam session, or a ceili. It might be good to get to bed by 11ish tonight!
Sat May 8 – Hotel breakfast 8am board coach 9am, to drive south to Glasgow. We will see more of the Great Glen, then Ben Nevis, Scotland’s highest mountain. We will see the beautiful region around Glencoe, the famous Green Welly rest stop, then proceed south to famous Loch Lomond and Ben Lomond. Eventually, we will invade the city of Glasgow, in time to check in 5pm, and a short walk to dinner. You are free to find entertainment in town, since we are in center city.

Sun May 9 – Hotel breakfast 8am or sleep in while our churchgoing members find 9am Sunday services. Board coach 10:30am, for a day trip to Stirling, past the Bannockburn Battlefield. We will visit Stirling Castle around lunch time, and the William Wallace Monument around 3pm. Just a few miles away, we will visit Doune Castle, 4:30pm, famous for filming such shows as Monty Python, Outlander, Ivanhoe, and Game of Thrones. Not far back to Glasgow; and a short walk to dinner nearby 7pm at The Italian Kitchen. There should be entertainment in town after dinner, here in Scotland’s largest city.
Mon May 10 – Hotel breakfast 8am, or just sleep in! This is a day completely on your own in Scotland’s largest and friendliest city. Go to see things you missed yesterday. Go to the movies, shopping, museums, and the pubs. Maybe take the Hop On, Hop Off tour of Glasgow. Meet again for cocktails 5:30pm, dinner at 6pm upstairs at the Piper Whisky Bar on George Square. We’ll have a final meeting of the clans, some local music, then home to pack for tomorrow, and get some rest!
Tue May 11 – Hotel breakfast 6am, board coach 6:30am.It’s a convenient and quick drive to check in at Edinburgh airport 7:30am. Say farewell to our faithful Mackies Coach driver! There should be time for filling out customs cards, Tax Back forms, and last-minute shopping at the Duty-Free area before take-off at 9:40am. It’s about 7 hours on our flight UA 162K. Land at Newark 12:30am;USA time, meet Terp’s bus, rest stop halfway, then home! Hopefully, back to Binghamton by 4pm, Corning before dark!
