14-day trip: Tue June 29 – Mon July 12. The Four Provinces of Ireland.
Tue June 29 - Leave Corning Wegmans 12 noon, Elmira Holiday Inn 12:30pm, Waverly Sally Ann 1 pm, Johnson City Wegmans 2pm, rest stop & first pint at the Siamsa Pub, Stroudsburg PA 4pm. We will arrive at Newark airport 7pm, to check in. United flight 25 at 10pm, overnight flight. Dinner and breakfast served on flight.
Wed June 30 – Land in Dublin 9am, meet our driver 10am for a day trip to Ennis, County Clare, for 4 nights stay. Stop at National Stud Farm 12noon for lunch and a tour, and on to Limerick City and tour King John’s Castle 3pm. Irish coffee at Durty Nellie’s Pub on the way to Ennis. Check in, then hotel dinner and entertainment 7pm.

Thu July 1 – Let’s have an easy day…maybe sleep in, hotel breakfast by 10am, hang out in Ennis for the day if you like. OR, board coach 10am for a quick trip to north Kerry. Stop in at Foynes Sea Plane Museum founded by Maureen O’Hara, where Irish Coffee was invented. After a light lunch there, head back to Bunratty Folk Park for a tour of the park and the castle. See authentic thatched cottages, and a high street of shops and pubs lovingly rebuilt from all over Ireland. Medieval Castle Banquet 5:30pm , then home again.
Fri July 2 – Hotel breakfast 8am, board coach 9am for a day trip to West Clare, Keane Country. First stop, the fishing pier in Cappagh for a photo stop of Scattery Island. In Irish, it’s Inis Cathaig. Here, Saint Senan vanquished Cathaigh the sea monster and established his monastery. On we go to the West Clare Railway Museum at Moyasta 11am. We will stop for lunch 1pm, at the Kilkee Rocks Café. See the West Clare cliffs, with plenty of fabulous photo stops including Saint Kee’s Well. We will see the Keane family farm and burial ground near Cross. About that time, we’ll need a “pit and pint” stop at Foleys’s Pub. Tour Loop Head Lighthouse, and the local church in Kilbaha. We’ll try to get home for 8pm dinner.
Sat July 3 – Hotel breakfast 8am, board coach 9am, for a day trip to Cobh, Midleton, & Cork City. Arrive in Cork City 11am, time for walkabout and lunch in Ireland’s second largest city. Board coach 1pm to drive to Cobh Immigration Museum 2pm, where so many Irish sailed for America. See St. Colman’s Cathedral and the lovely fishing village. Depart 3:30pm for Midleton Whiskey Distillery 4pm. Tour Ireland’s largest distiller and have a taste or two! Head for home 5:30pm to Ennis, Dinner with music at 7:30pm.
Sun July 4 – Hotel breakfast 8am, board coach 9am for a day trip to Galway for a day on the town. There is 11am Mass at the Cathedral; enjoy the festive pedestrian streets and shops. See the medieval and Georgian architecture. See the street performers, and tip the ones you like most. Look for Sheridan’s Cheese Mongers and their wine shop upstairs; look for the Pie Maker shop, Dillon’s Claddagh Rings, The Treasure Chest, Powell’s books & music section, Ciaran Moloney instruments, Anne at O’Mhaille’s yarn shop, McDonagh’s Seafood. Check in and dinner at hotel 6pm.

Mon July 5 – Hotel breakfast 8am, board coach 9am, for a journey to Connemara and the Aran Islands. Drive the coast of Galway Bay to Ros a Mhil and the 10:30 ferry. Check in and lunch 11:30am at the Aran Island Hotel. You can hike, or bike, or hire a pony cart. There will be a van service also if you wish, around 2pm. Visit the ancient fort of Dun Aengus, the Seven Churches, or the Wormhole, or watch the basking seals. Dinner and music at the hotel, 7pm.

Tue July 6 – Relax! Hotel breakfast by 10am, and take the day to rest if you like. Try visiting places you missed yesterday. Irish coffee reception and tunes at Aran Island Knit Shop, 5pm. Dinner at Ti Joe Watty Pub, 7pm. Music afterward with local folks, usually a nice walk home to hotel, van service if needed. Pack tonight for early departure in the morning.
Wed July 7 – Hotel continental breakfast 6:30am, walk or board van 7:30am to catch the 8am ferry back to the Connemara coast. We have a break in Cong, where The Quiet Man was filmed, then stop for lunch and a brief tour of the shrine in Knock, 11am. We will visit the Mass Rock in Sligo at 2pm. We continue north through Sligo, Leitrim, and Donegal, to visit Patsy Sullivan’s farm, 4pm. Hotel check in and dinner, 7pm.

Thu July 8 – Hotel breakfast 8am, board coach 9am, for a day trip through Northern Ireland, the province of Ulster. Our first stop: Derry city walking tour 10am. We will proceed to lunch and tour of the Giant’s Causeway, 1pm, on the north Antrim coast. We will board coach at 3pm to see the Carrick a Rede rope bridge. From there, we drive back to our hotel for dinner 7pm. Pack for departure tomorrow, get some rest!
Fri July 9 – Hotel breakfast 8am, board coach 9am for a day trip to Bray. We will drive through the drumlin hills and the Foyle river valley of Tyrone and Armagh through O’Cahan country, to Navan Hill Fort 11am for tour and lunch. Photo stops and a good “stretch of the legs” at Armagh Cathedrals, then a few minutes’ drive to Keady and the Tommy Makem Centre 3pm, for a tour and music. Photo stops at Newgrange, the Boyne Battleground, and the Hill of Tara. Hotel check in and dinner in Bray 7pm.

Sat & Sun July 10 & 11 - Hotel breakfast and board coach by 10am for two days about town in Dublin. Try the Hop on Hop off system, see Kilmainham Gaol, or Glasnevin Cemetery, Guinness Brewery, Trinity College, etc. Don’t forget Mass! In the evening, meet the whole group for dinner and show around 6pm. Take bus at 10pm back to Bray.
Mon July 12 - Hotel breakfast 8am, board coach 9am. Today, it’s a quick drive to Dublin airport to check in, 9:30am. Get through customs and security, time to shop in duty-free. United Flight 24, 12:30pm. land in Newark around 3pm, home to Elmira around 8pm…
